are we there yet?

for most of september it had been really ridiculously hot in LA.  elsewhere in the country, september is the time when things begin to cool off, when summer comes to an end and autumn floats in on the breeze.  but here in california, september can still be one of the warmest months of the year.  in fact, the hottest day ever in LA happened last september {luckily we were in thailand at the time, but my poor chloe cat had to
be rescued from our hot house}.  san francisco was the same way - if one was ever
to bare a bit of skin, it would likely only happen this time of year.

but things seem to have cooled off here in LA since we've been back, and all i can think about is autumn.
it's finally here!  and while it's still a little too warm, i can't wait to wear my favorite scarves,
cozy up in my wool socks and long underwear, and let my hair down.

i can't wait to mull some apple cider, sip chai tea lattes, and put pumpkin in everything i make.
i can't wait to watch the leaves change, cuddle up by the fire, and feel my cheeks get rosy.

and i can't wait for all the change in life that comes with a new season.  things seem to slow down, settle in.  there's less energy than in the spring and there's something really nice about that, relieving even.

while it may still be warm in LA, i have high hopes for autumn to grace us with its wonderfully chilly weather soon.  and maybe, just maybe, a few trees with changing leaves! or is that too much for an east coast girl to ask of LA?  whatever the case, i am so excited it's that time of year.

  1. We actually have better weather now than we had most of the summer. It isn't raining, the sun is out, but not too hot at all:)

  6. I'm so with you on that, Kim! Although, I think the weatherman did say that it was going to be in the 90s the rest of this week...I'm hoping they're wrong (they so often are ;). Looking forward to crisp autumn leaves and drinking pumpkin spice lattes! :)

  7. I love sipping chai tea lattes in the fall. We got some chilly weather already in Kentucky (which is unusual) and I'm trying to really enjoy it. Normally I'd be in love with it, but I jammed my toe a few weeks ago and can't wear anything besides sandals yet! Still, pulling out my sweaters and jeans is awfully nice after the horrible summer we had this year. Hopefully autumn visits you in full soon!

  9. Oh Kim, it is almost 100 degrees over here and how I long for cooler temps and wearing my knee high boots. Sigh.
Please come out here for a week and just have fun. You belong in SF- and it loves you back!

  10. Amen to that!

The first two weeks of September were our hottest of the summer, but finally the mornings are cool, the leaves are changing colours {I want to photograph every. single. tree. I. see.}, and it's raining. Pumpkin spice lattes, here I come! This morning I even made pumpkin cinnamon french toast for breakfast.

    Hooray for fall!

PS: Have I mentioned how happy I am to have you back?

  12. I struggle with this all the time. September being fall is such ingrained thing that living in Australia with it's opposite seasons is really hard for me in that way. I want to bake with pumpkin and curl up under blankets and its getting warmer and warmer here. Le sigh.

  13. Yay for Fall! I am reminded every year of my love for the season. The boyfriend asked me the other day if someday we could have a fall wedding. I told him he was getting a little ahead of himself, but really, I thought... what a great idea. :) Fall is such fun, and I'm so glad you're getting a taste of it, too!

  18. I'm behind on reading...It's almost a full month after your post. But I LOVE Fall. I just spent the weekend on the Blue Ridge Pkwy where the leaves were at "peak" for the autumn colors. Love your pics in your post. Very cozy.
