we're finally back from our adventurous getaway to the san francisco bay. there were some amazing experiences and also some really tough challenges. but it's the hard times that teach you just how strong you are, and which make the good times shine even more brightly. so all in all, it was a pretty fantastic trip!
highlights
* being back home in our favorite city in the world.
* amazing indian, thai, brunch, & ethiopian food at some of our favorite restaurants {mmm!}.
* hiking in the thick fog surrounded by coyotes and herds of elk {it was so magical!}.
* learning whole heaps about ourselves, life, and relationships.

* seeing some of our favorite people from our past.
* attending our friends' beautiful wedding.
* hearing the elk calls.
* hearing the elk calls.
{hiking to the end of the world... or at least the country.}
{deep in the fog, we couldn't see. but often we would hear an elk call. as the fog broke just slightly, we would see the dark outline of a great beast with large antlers keeping watch. magical indeed!}
{the elk in a clearing outside the fog.}things i learned
* short trips back home means you won't get to see nearly as many loved ones as you'd like to,
so make sure you enjoy every second with the few people you do get to see.
* wine can be a suitable backup plan for self-medicating terrible ocd triggered panic attacks.
* always take your car repair manual, plus extra money in the budget for car repairs.
* and on a related note, miracles are totally real, particularly ones wherein you have to spend a whole afternoon replacing two car tires, but you don't mind because your life was spared and it could have been much worse.
* red bull + a very long playlist of 80's favorites is the best recipe for driving back to LA at 3 am.
* we'll definitely be moving back to san francisco one day, it's just a matter of time.

* love is a crazy, mysterious, wonderful, and powerful force.
{brunch time!}
as usual, it felt like way too short of a trip, but it was great all the same. we spent almost 2 days in the city, running errands and seeing friends, followed by several days at a cabin up in the woods of pt. reyes national park. we enjoyed long evenings by the fire and roamed the edge of the country, above the crashing ocean waves.

we both miss san francisco so much and it's pretty clear we'll end up there again. but for now we're trying to enjoy what LA has to offer and be content with our mini getaways back home from time to time.
Glad you both got through the misadventures safely! The hiking trip looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteAw, glad you had a good time even with the excitement/terror of car problems. Learning about yourself and love is always a great thing to gain from any trip with that special someone. :) Also glad to have you back in the blog world!
ReplyDeleteThat hike sounds incredible. I'm glad you enjoyed your time in SF despite what sounds like some serious hiccups. :| Glad you're okay and that you had each other (and wine). <3
ReplyDeleteDid you hike the Tomales Point trail at Point Reyes? I love that - we did it at the beginning of September and it was amazing. We got there pretty early (hit the trail a little before 9am) so there was almost nobody else there. Just us and the elk :)
ReplyDeleteGosh, sounds like both had an amazing time besides the near death experience with your car (glad your ok!!). SF is in my top 3 favorite cities. It's a magical place. My boyfriend and i are in the talks about moving there in the near future. We will see....
ReplyDeleteLOVELY! I'll be in SF this sat and sunday, so sad to have missed you, but so thankful you had a wonderful time :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Your outfits are so cute!!!

so glad you are back. I love the matching cardigans. you guys are too cute!
ReplyDeleteYikes! Even just the hints you've given at the car troubles/accident make me feel anxious. So glad you're both alive and well, and that you had a good holiday overall.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of you before brunch is fabulous, Kim. You look so happy in San Francisco. I hope you two will be back there soon.
Missed you this past week! Glad to see you back again {I actually had it in my head that you weren't back until tomorrow, so seeing you had a new post up was a lovely surprise!}
xoxo
Magical, indeed! I'm so glad you had such a great time and are able to take the positive out of the negative.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like a crazy, exciting, miraculous getaway. Love your pigtails in the first picture and your boots (and smile) in one of the last ones.
ReplyDeleteEverything about this trip sounds magical. So happy to hear you had a great time together... and yes, wine tends to cure many things, as I've noticed over the years. I'm raising a glass to you right now.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back. You were missed :)
Your hike looks like it was amazing. Congratulations on your first anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThat picture of the elk is SO beautiful and haunting.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be an adventure without the highs and lows. I can't wait to experience San Fran for myself one day. It's the only city in this country I'm still aching to see.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back and safe! I love that photo of you and your cute dress and awesome Toms. I love that you have taken your (mis)adventures on a positive spin. I am really bummed that I couldn't go out there to see you. I really am not flake, I promise! I will make it up to you in baked goods and hugs.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you guys had such a great time! I love what you said about Love :) It truly is crazy and mysterious.

you and your friends have the most amazing weddings. a vacay wouldn't be a vacay without a few bumps it the road, but that's what makes it memorable!
ReplyDelete"remember the time when we had two flat tires...??"
glad you are all ok, tho!
[oomph.]
You're Invited: fall in love with mark.
I'm so happy you had such a wonderful trip! The picture of the Elk is amazing! Nature and the wilderness are an amazing force in our lives, if we choose to embrace them!
