my apologies for this post

so not many people know this about me, but in addition to having clinical ocd and synesthesia, i also have adult ADD {can you see why i don't want to procreate?}.  usually my ADD results in me having to heat whatever's in the microwave 6 times before i actually remember to pull it out while it's hot, or starting about a million different tasks at once only to spend a total of 45 seconds...

anyway, yesterday i began writing 4 different posts with the intention that one of those posts would go up today.  i didn't finish any of them.  instead, amongst all the attempted blog writing, i managed to:

sing "lola" over and over while the mister learned it on the mandolin,
tried to write a blog post,
heated up some tea,
read one paragraph from "the eating disorder sourcebook,"
looked at all the photos from the holiday LA renegade craft fair from last december on flickr,
tried to write a blog post,
wandered outside to watch the baby barn owls in our tree,
remembered i had heated tea but never drank it,
reheated tea,
tried to write a blog post,
read another paragraph in the "the eating disorder sourcebook,"
DANCE BREAK!!!
googled "encaptured" to see if it was a real word or just one i made up,
tried to write a blog post,
looked at my "funny" board on pinterest and laughed for a solid minute at this one,
got a glass out to make tea,
remembered i already had tea,
went back outside to watch the owls,
tried to write a blog post,
tweeted about hearing satie's "gymnopedie no. 1,"
looked up erik satie and got sucked into the vortex that is wikipedia,
tried to write a blog post,
remembered that 3 days ago i wanted to look up the lyrics to "lisztomania" once and for all,
read the criteria for ADHD in the DSM-IV,
finally looked up the lyrics to lisztomania once and for all {girls going crazy over franz liszt is pretty funny, however that phoenix song is pretty freaking stupid},
finally wrote this post.

i think i need cereal.

random pretty photo found on pinterest:
{there... humor, honesty, & a pretty picture - all the essential components of a good blog post}

hopefully today will be much more productive.
happy wednesday everyone.

  5. Well Lola is not the worst song to sing over and over:)
I usually start a lot of things at once too, and hardly finish any of them!

  8. So, is encaptured a real word?
My dictionary says it isn't, but we could make it one, starting now.

It's good to see the humor in a distracted and not-too-productive day--and even to laugh at yourself a bit! It makes everything better, no?

  9. Excellent! I love the way you turned this into something fun. In the book I'm reading a character said "take your weakness and turn it into your strength because then no one can use it against you". It seems you did exactly that! So... was encaptured a word?

  10. Exactly what everyone else said (they're up earlier than me, but in fairness... I am on the Pacific Coast!). This post is indeed, funny, insightful, honest... and you are super lovable! And the DANCE BREAK bit was awesome.

I do that with my tea, pretty much all the time. I blame it on my kids though. They distract the hell out of me!

Happy Wednesday. May it be fun AND productive!

  14. Kim, I love you. You're one of my favorite people in the world, and though you might have been frustrated trying to write posts and not succeeding immediately, your day honestly sounds like magic to me. I definitely have days like this one, especially lately.

  15. I find it quite impressive that you didn't weave cleaning the floor boards or rewashing dishes. This usually falls on my list of things to do when I'm trying to really do something else. I bet the baby barn owls were really cute. You deserve to check on them lots.

  16. Ok, that cartoon made my morning (which is saying something because for some reason, I woke up at 4 AM...just because). Le sigh.

    BANG.

  17. Kim, you crack me up! I think this is a fabulous list of accomplishments :-) Much more fun than toiling in front of a computer!

  18. Heehee. At any given moment, I have about 26 unfinished tasks going on. And baby barn owls sound like the most delightful creatures on the planet!

  21. Oops, I think I just emailed you your own post. Anyhoo, I was just trying to write you to let you know that I will be in LA this weekend for a wedding! Let me know if you have any free time, 'cause I'd love to see you guys!

  22. you are such a fresh of breath air.

wait. I really just wrote that and stopped to ask myself why it sounded funny and then got distracted by the raindrops on my windowsill and then turned to poke Tiho because he was tapping his leg on the bed. I am not diagnosed with adult add but want you to know that maybe I should be.

    Kiss!

  25. you are right, humor, honesty and a pretty picture are essential to a good post! by the way, I have synesthesia too! and people never want to believe it's an actual condition, they think i might be going crazy or that i am dyslexic (i have spatial sequence synesthesia).... ever gotten that reaction? would love to hear how you cope when people react that way.... siiiigh

  26. Oh wow! This deserves a big HURRAY! Woohoo! Hell yeah! Because, with all the stuff you did and re-did, you managed to write a brilliant blog post. THAT.IS.TALENT.

A really enjoyable read.. now I'm off to see what made you laugh on pinterest. This puts Kinfolk on hold for a bit :)

  27. Awe, must feel frustrating. I know I feel like a chicken with my head cut off often, and it makes me feel like I'm losing it! Sounds like you are managing it all well. Xx, C

Also, thanks for the sweet comment the other day and for sending your friend my etsy shop link. So kind!
