kinfolk

thanks to a very helpful reader the other day, i was finally able to relocate kinfolk, the most beautiful food magazine ever {although i still don't remember who's blog i originally discovered it on - sorry!}.

kinfolk is a grand source of inspiration for the art of building connections and creating meaningful experiences around food.  there are ideas for small gatherings, sweet food dates for two, and even for when you're on your own.  everything involves food and meals, but the focus is very much on the bigger picture of life - beauty, reflection, intentionality, growth.

oh and the pictures -- {The Pictures!!} -- just gorgeous.

as someone who longs to rush through every meal, it has been a big deal for me to connect with this magazine.  now that i work at a residential facility for eating disorders, i've been making the extra effort to get to know food in a whole new way.  thankfully, kinfolk came at the perfect time to make things just a little easier for me.  i may still hate to cook, but maybe, just maybe, i can find ways to use food as an excuse to spend time with loved ones, practice mindfulness and gratitude, and get to know myself a little bit better.

  2. The concept of "a relationship with food" still eludes me, but maybe one day, I will look at it as something more than just satisfying my cravings and keeping my tummy full.

  8. I find cooking and baking quite soothing, but more than that. It's always been super important to me to have meals where we sit down as a family and eat dinner together. IC and I don't have a table and chairs - so this is still a bit of pipe dream for me, but I hate sitting on the couch and eating dinner. ew

  13. Yeah, mindful eating is not as easy to accomplish when your day's a little busy. It is good to enjoy your meals though, however quickly you consume it. I'm working on this one..

My eyes are full and happy and fulfilled just looking at what you featured here. Can't wait to see what Kinfolk has to offer. I already know it's going to be good..

    Thanks for the heads up!

  14. I must say, I've always loved eating, maybe a little too much at times. Family dinners were always important when I was growing up. We always sat together and ate dinner together, as a family. I just find it a good way to relax and connect with one another at the end of the day.

Reading your blog is always an inspiration and gives me many great things to think about. Thank you!

  15. I love magazines that focus on food and the celebration of it (with others especially). I think the photography is utterly stunning and makes me wish (again) that I will better at cooking.

Do you think they would hire me? And why did I never think of this? Oh, Kim, the ideas that are swimming around in my mind right now!

I wanna hang out and I'm bummed I live far away now. Just applied for another job in LA though.
