i'm not a big collector. throughout my adult life i have always lived in ridiculously small apartments which never allowed me the luxury to own much, and i don't think that will be changing anytime soon. but if i did collect anything it would be art. sometimes i daydream of having my own museum behind my teeny cottage in the middle of silver lake. not only would it be a place to display art, but it would also be a space for performances - poetry readings, music concerts, plays, film shoots, photo shoots - it would be my heaven!
since i can't have my museum in real life, i figured i would go ahead and build one right here on my blog. so step on over and check out the first installment, my poster-art-meets-pop-culture favorites - unique designs, cool typography, paying homage to music & movies. love!
{left-right} "sea legs" by the shins - artist i love dust; "home" by edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros - artist numskull; "everything will be fine" by belle & sebastian - artist steph says hello.
{left-right} "on the radio" by regina spektor, "passing afternoon" by iron & wine, "no rain" by blind melon, "anyone else but you" by the moldy peaches, "to be surprised" by sondre lerche, "hurt" by nine inch nails {covered by johnny cash}, "electioneering" by radiohead, and "not dark yet" by bob dylan.

thanks for visiting my museum!

Love the collections! What a wonderful dream to have a place where you can do all those inspiring things!
ReplyDeleteahh love them. :) xxx
ReplyDeleteLOL. I love your museum. I am art addict myself. I can't really afford to collect and my current apartment has concrete walls. Super hard to hang stuff up. However, that has just made me more apt to make my own and bookmark every pretty thing I see online.
ReplyDeleteI've had those music philosophy ones book marked for ages. I love love love them. Hadn't seen that show down series, so fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are so clever. I feel guilty thinking that the Titanic and the iceberg are cute, heh heh...
ReplyDeleteThese posters are great, Kim! When I was younger, I used to collect lots of things: little figurines, greeting cards, letters from friend. Today, my only collecting addiction is books, and I've gotten much more selective about which get added to my library. I usually "try out" new books by getting them from the public library first. It's really helped. I never really had posters those. Once I have a home and more wall space perhaps I will.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean! I love the idea of having your walls covered in artwork...I love slowly browsing through, like in an art museum! :) Besides, there are always fun stories to tell, like where they were acquired or why you needed to own this piece of art so much. You could always take a moving "art museum" with you wherever you move to! :)
ReplyDeleteOh now these are very, very cool!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I so love these, they're great!
ReplyDeleteLoving all of these posters! the music philosophy ones are my fav, definitely going to need to acquire one of those!
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday! xo
Haha! I love the bright posters with music lyrics. :) I'm not sure what I would collect. Noah wouldn't let it happen, but probably boat loads of picture frames with personal photos. .... on every wall, counter, and available space!
ReplyDeleteThose show downs are hilarious! Short circuit was my favorite! Johnny 5 is alive!
ReplyDeleteThese are all great! The real standout for me is The Goonies! That film will always hold up.
ReplyDeleteThese are all AWESOME!! But I'm partial to the "Holy moly me oh my, you're the apple of my eye..." :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE the idea of your museum! Maybe someday it'll become a reality.
ReplyDeleteall these made me smile:) I've seen the poster lyric posters before, and I just think they're so clever.
ReplyDeleteOh, and I know I've said this before... but your anecdotes and comments that you leave on my blog... they are just so wonderful, I find them so calming. Thank you.
I can't count the number of times I had to pass on a great (affordable) piece of art because I had nowhere to put it. Believe me, I understand. This is a fun alternative for sure-- well curated and thoroughly enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteWow, I am loving the music philosophy ones in particular!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a fan of Mico! I always like to have a shirt with a Music Philosophy design on it. :)
