the brewery art walk

one of the coolest aspects of living in our neighborhood of echo park {other than the awesome coffee shops and being surrounded by musicians, actors & other creative types} is our proximity to the arts district in downtown LA.  this weekend we took advantage of our next door neighborhood and visited dozens
of open art studios at the brewery.

the brewery is the world's largest art complex, packed full of amazing live/work studios.  twice a year they have an art walk where artists open their homes for the public to come view the art being created there.
here were some of the scenes from sunday:

{"machine" - a musical instrument by church of art}

 {metal key tree by sandman creations}

 {art car ready for burning man!}

{an outfit for arting - shirt: sf thrift store, skirt: ruche, shoes: bc footwear, pocketwatch necklace: lunashineshine, t-shirt bracelet: made my me}

my most favorite studio, by far, was psycho girlfriend's. these girls were all wearing handmade 50's style dresses with giant polka dots. inside the polka dots were faces of old black & white tv stars, and each girl's dress was a different color. i wish i snapped a photo of them, because they were great!
here are some pics from their studio:

 {why yes, this IS a dress made from binder clips}

 {"this sign is not for sale" priced at $400.00}

it was so much fun to be surrounded by all that creativity! there was great people-watching, networking with other artists, and of course, it was super fun to see how people created homes in these warehouse studios.  can you imagine how amazing it would be to live in a community of other
artists packed in old breweries like this? what great energy!

  2. Love that last photo of you. What a fun place the brewery is! I think there should be buildings like this all over, where artists can have studios (I'd make it all free) and work and build communities amongst themselves and with the people in the neighborhood. Can you imagine how transformative that would be?

  3. Fun. We have something similar this way in the fall. I love seeing what other people are making. It always inspires me.
    I love the outfit, especially the skirt.
    I hope you are well. Feel free to shoot me an email or skype me, if you need an ear.
    peace.

  4. You look amazing! At my university there are art shows and there were a couple of cool pieces there. I like out ISAT (integrated science and technology) shows too because those students are practically required to make something "green". One group this year, as undergraduates, converted a car from gas to batter run.

    Thrift store shirt = total win. Love it! (and your hair is way too cute!).
