round round get around!

how am i going to get around l.a.?! i sold my car back when i moved to san francisco because you really don't need one in this awesome city. but l.a. will be a completely different story.

this poses a couple big problems.
1. it's been years since i've driven a car. years! all i've done to get around is walk {and sometimes ride the bus}. but you know, walking isn't nearly the stressful commute that driving large machinary at 70 mph is! so yes, the thought of driving again, in los angeles no less, is pretty scary.

2. we have absolutely no money for a new automobile. and if we could scrape together enough for a new car, it would be to replace dannon's faithful corolla that's about to move on to automobile heaven.

so... i've been considering other options and came up with this: a scooter!
scooters only cost a couple thousand dollars, have great gas mileage, can park anywhere, can lane split in traffic jams, and would be perfect for l.a. where it's warm and hardly ever rains. plus, look how cute they are!

maybe in a couple months i'll look like this...{photos found on weheartit and flickr}

have you ever ridden a scooter? would you ever want one?

  1. I've ALWAYS wanted to try one, they're so cute! Any idea what color (I know, what a dumb, girly question to ask). I contemplated moving to LA for work years ago but the driving is what turned me off, it's too intense. Even in Seattle there are areas I avoid completely and prefer to take the bus to avoid the stress.

  2. I've always longed for a little blue scooter to toot around in. Alas, the midwest winters lead to it only being scooter friendly 5 months out of the year. Totally lame.

    I say go for it! But make sure you do all your research first because Matt bought a moped last year, only to have it break down every other day and cost way more than he paid initially to fix. Scooters are probably different, but I'd exercise caution!

    You would look so cute on one though!

  4. I would love a scooter! But in Iowa, it just can't happen. Good thing I'm only here for three more years! I think you would probably have a blast with a scooter! It could make the driving a bit less stressful in LA.

  5. I live in a college town and when there's not snow on the ground A LOT of people use scooters to get around. It's actually really smart because they're cheap on gas and in a place like LA (where there is no snow, hehe) I'll bet they'd work out really well.

  7. My fiance is scooter obsessed! He buys old beat up scooters and gives them new life. Right now I have one in the basement he is restoring and it will be painted a pretty pink sparkle with white detailing and a white seat. I'm really excited for it! Scooting is the way to be!

  8. This would be adorable, but I don't think I'd feel safe in traffic on one!

  9. Yep, that would be awesome. And as someone who has seriously considered purchasing one, I know the ins and outs of most of the good scooters here. Call me if you want more info.

  11. just catching up on reading your blogs after about a month of online absence...you need to check out Hardknock Bobbers or Oldskool Bobbers online....most are classified as a scooter due to the motor size, but look like an retro bobbed motorcycle and start at about $1500. I love em, but you might prefer a more classic scooter look.
