the answer to all life's problems

the answer to all of life's problems {other than duct tape and a hot glue gun of course} is definitely ice cream.  please, feel free to include gelato in this category.  i'm happy with all of it so long as it's
creamy, flavorful, and life-changingly delicious!

earlier this week i had one of those days - the kind of day that was filled with a giant happy surprise, but the sort of surprise that will bring with it lots of busyness and challenges.  i was promoted this week at my job which is a huge compliment for being at such an early point in my employment {hooray!}.  my boss sees something in me that she likes, and values the work i do with our patients.  it feels so great to experience this, especially since i've been doubting my talents as a therapist in the post-graduate school world.  it's definitely something to be celebrated.  at the same time, i will no longer have work-free weekends.  gone are the days of meeting up with friends on friday and saturday nights to hang out {unless of course people want to hang out with me after midnight. remember those youthful late night adventures? oh to be in my early 20's again.}.
so as happy as i am to get this promotion, i'm also grieving a bit of a loss.

what's a girl to do?  why take her handsome hubby out to the record store and ice cream shop of course!
i don't know about you, but i tend to think that ice cream on a hot august day is exactly the right kind of
self-care for a crazy week!  in just two scoops of madagascar vanilla with almond espresso
chip goodness the emotional rollercoaster seemed a little less stressful.
ah, sweet ice cream!

photos are of carmela's ice cream, which you can find in pasadena or the hollywood farmer's market.
i went there a few weeks ago and the brown sugar vanilla bean with honey lavender ice cream was phenomenal!

  10. Ahh! Congratulations on the promotion! You're rockin' the therapeutic world like none other. Crazy after all those months of looking for something in your field and not really finding it, right? Feels good for the soul, I'm sure. :) You'll find time for ice cream and fun things, don't worry. There'll just be an adjustment period first, but if there's one thing I've learned about you from this beautiful little blog it's that you're one heck of a woman, and one who will definitely persevere through just about any hardship. <33 Much love, dear.

  12. Kim, what fantastic news! I'm absolutely thrilled for you. You so deserve this promotion, even if it means losing your weekends (maybe the next promotion will mean returning them to you?). And I agree, gelato/ice cream is definitely the best way to go about celebrating. I sort of want to make you go to Pazzo Gelato on a regular basis just so you could report back to me on the new delicious flavors they have.

  13. It is true--there is nothing like ice cream! Or any variation thereof (gelato, frozen yogurt, sorbet, etc.). A huge congrats to you on your promotion! That must feel so good & so validating to you, and I'm certain you deserve it. :) Celebrate!!

  14. Yum! I haven't had ice cream in quite some time and now you've got me craving some (I'm always so pleasantly surprised with the amount of gelato that is vegan)!

But most importantly, congratulations on your promotion! Even before I read the following sentence, I thought "wow, that's quick"! I'm so happy for you. And I agree with Brandi.. hopefully the next move will bring the weekends back to you. In the meantime, I hope things will be enjoyable for you and that you may quickly adjust to them to fit into your life.

  15. That's so great! Congratulations!! It's a bummer that you'll have to work on the weekends, but you'll surely find other times to catch up with friends!

Also have you considered making your icecream? It is creamier - and smoother than nearly all store bought :)
