coolhaus ice cream sandwich truck

can we take a minute to talk about food trucks please? i'm not sure if you have them where you live, but here in los angeles they are all the rage.  you can find just about every type of food packed up in a clever truck, each with it's own unique twist. for example, there's a grilled cheese truck which offers a sandwich with caramelized cinnamon apples & candied walnuts mixed in the cheese.  oh heavens!

there are a whole bunch of food trucks on my "places to try in LA" list, but i've already discovered
a few favorites.  at the top of my list is the amazing coolhaus ice cream sandwich truck.

{it's so cute!}

oh yes, tis the season for finding creative ways to stay cool, and you can be sure, once i get a job and have some spending money, that i'll be hopelessly devoted to this adorable truck.  coolhaus creates
ice cream sandwiches on the spot according to your specifications.  you get to choose the
type of ice cream AND the type of cookie out of a huge menu of selections.

here are a couple combos i'm excited to try:

rootbeer float ice cream + ginger molasses cookie
olive oil w/ rosemary ice cream + brioche cookie
nutella toasted almond ice cream + snickerdoodle cookie

and let me tell you, these things are enormous!
plus, each ice cream sandwich comes in an edible wrapper {made from potatoes with soy ink}.

having lived in constant 60 degree weather for the past 6 years means i don't remember what it feels like to experience hot, summer weather.  i'll probably complain a lot over the coming months {"ew, why is my skin sticky?!"}, but you can be sure this little truck is one thing i am greatly looking
forward to during the upcoming hot days.

what are you looking forward to this summer?

and for those of you who don't live in LA, there's still hope.
coolhaus also has ice cream sandwich trucks in austin, tx and new york, ny!

  4. that ice cream sandwich looks delicious. yummmy, they need to drive to ky.

  5. I can't believe I haven't tried all these food trucks in LA yet! This ice cream sandwich one has been on my list forever (especially since Mardy is an ice cream MONSTER, and he'd love these!). I also have to still try the Korean taco truck. I need to spend more time in LA! :)

  6. This is what we need more of here! My belly would be so happy..

  7. This is going on my to-do list for when I'm in LA! YUM.

  8. Okay, yep, you're right! One more reason I need to take a holiday to L.A.! Ice cream sandwiches made to order? How awesome is that?!

I am also quite enamoured with the idea of a grilled cheese sandwich truck. Mmmm...

We don't have food trucks here. Well, maybe the occasional hot dog/pretzel vendor downtown, but that hardly counts...

  9. WHAT?!?! I was here feeling like I need to hit up that truck when I travel and there is one in NY?! RULES! Thanks for sharing, now time for me to find this thing!

  10. I have never eaten from a food truck. So sad, I know! I really need to go down and spend a week with you and your amazingness.

  11. A grilled cheese truck? Oh yes, please! Ice cream? Uh huh. You're making me so jealous!

  12. Oh. my. goodness.

Why don't we have one of these?? I felt lucky to discover we had an ice cream truck. period, just an ice cream truck..... in our neightborhood last year. That was a discovery!

There is one taco truck that is always in the same location on the other side of town....but Noah and I don't eat tacos.

Thanks for sharing, I feel like I must start googling random food trucks now! Can one have every type of pizza that I ever want? Or mashed potatoes?

  13. i love how food trucks are so popular here! there are SO MANY that i want to try, including this one!!!!

  14. Looks amazing!! Chocolate-chip ice cream sandwiches are one of my very favorite treats.

  15. Thanks for your comment, I'm so glad to see that people agree with me and I'm not just being picky!
The food trucks sound amazing!! I wish we had things like that here!!! I almost want to jump on a plane simply to try those icecream sandwiches.
And congrats on the band as well, that's so exciting!!

  16. Before I'm leaving LA, we're so getting some ice cream here. If I were in LA right now, I'd be swinging by to get some right now. Oh, the ice cream torture!

  17. Oh my, that's so fun! The only 'food-on-wheels deal' in my area are the taco trucks. But a grilled cheese truck? And an ice cream sandwich truck? Yum yum gimme some! That looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing!

  18. The only food trucks we have in DK are hotdog vans - they are tasty but I would love something more inventive like these - WOW thanks for sharing - and have a great weekend Kim.
    A xox

  19. Really love this post - although it makes me sad that summer is now a distant memory as we head towards winter in Australia.

Speaking of food trucks, have you see beatbox kitchen or the taco truck before?

Ps: I'm currently running a super sweet giveaway that I think you'll love. If you have a moment, stop by!

  20. So cool ! It'd be nice if we have this ice cream sandwich truck over here. Yummehh

  21. That ice cream sandwich looks awesome! I've neve seen them here, but I havn't really looked. It can't be that hard though; two cookies, ice cream in the middle. Voila.
But if you were to eat it like an actual sandwich wouldn't the ice cream all squish out? The mind boggles.

  22. ok i am so looking forward to finally trying this. they come to the tuesday trucks in venice, but the line was WAY too long last time we were there. sooo next time i will just wait it out :)

  23. I have also had a growing fascination with the pop-up trucks that are appearing all over New York and I haven't seen this Coolhaus one just yet--will keep my eyes peeled. LOVE the idea of edible wrappers! Smart + environmentally friendly = Beautiful concept!

  24. yeah, I think these food trucks are awesome, I just can't seem to ever find them. I guess I need to get out to the crowded areas more. I really want to try this ice cream and the grill cheese too of course!

  25. Uh I live in LA and I want to go find this with you! If we walk around to find it do we get extra points for burning calories?!?! :D

IT doesn't look that big, but you can't really tell from the pictures! I think something minty would be refreshing!

  26. i wish we had trucks like that here in little Rhody, but we do have parks and trees and i am pretty much moving at the park and making the space under the tree my new home this summer. I am looking forward family bbqs, ice cream, and reading under a tree of course. (all of this after my summer classes end :)

  27. The truck is soo cute! I love the old school boom box on the side. I've been wanting to go to a Food Truck festival in LA. The next one is July 9th, I believe. Hopefully this truck will be there :)
