did you see the awards? i don't normally get too into the oscars, but i have two things to say this year:
1. i am completely in LOVE with cate blanchett's dress! i normally don't care about the dresses at all. sure they're all pretty, or really weird, but i have never wanted one of the dresses before... until now. this dress, oh this dress! it's just gorgeous.
2. why was everyone so harsh towards james franco? all night i saw tweet after tweet of people dogging on him, but it seemed pretty clear that he was nervous and more than a little intimidated to stand in front of ALL the experts in his field, plus billions of viewers across the world {talk about pressure}. just because he has a job performing in front of a camera means that he should be charismatic and outgoing all the time? not to mention, i'm sure he was pretty distracted having his own nomination at the end of the evening. i read recently that james franco got into acting as a way to overcome his extreme shyness, which seems like an accurate description when we see him in interviews and hosting award shows. would we be harsh on anyone else that we knew had phobias of public speaking or felt completely socially awkward? why do we expect SO MUCH from people who work behind the camera? whether or not you "like him as a person" {as if any of us actually know him in person}, you can't blame him for being shy and awkward. sure, maybe he wasn't the best choice to be a host of a major award show, but we should send those complaints to whoever is the hiring powers behind the academy awards. instead, i think we should praise james franco for taking such a huge risk and facing what was probably an enormous fear.
Oh I was in the office during the live show but managed to watch the encore last night but half way through I fell asleep in front of the couch. Hehe.
ReplyDelete1) Totally agree with you Kim, I love Cate Blanchett's dress! Love the colour, love her persona.
2) Not bad for a first timer to host the Oscar. It's such a huge task and I guess he delivered it well and it's definitely not an easy task as well to stand in front of billions of people watching all over the world. True that, James Franco should be praised for that.
I'm not much into the Oscars but ended up watching about 15 minutes worth of it. I didn't know people were ragging on Franco. It's not right to attack someone like that for shyness! I agree, just because you have confidence at rehearsed lines and do a great job in movies doesn't mean that you should be on top of everything all the time. Besides, from the little I saw he did a fine enough job.
ReplyDeleteI really liked.... girl from Star Wars' dress. Yeah, I don't know famous people well. No, wait, Natalie Portman? I seem to get her and Kiera Knightley confused a lot... I really liked the color and flowiness of it (not that flowiness is a word).
I was in class with James for years. I was shocked when I heard he was going to host because to partake in something like this kinda goes against everything that he's about! He actually despises award shows. but hey, how many times are you going to be asked to host the Oscars?
ReplyDeleteObsessed with Cate Blanchett to begin with.. Add the dress? It's a worship situation!
xx tash
amen sister! i personally love james franco and i thought he was himself throughout the show. maybe not the best host but he wasn't horrible.
ReplyDeleteanne hathaway on the other hand was overly perky for me. she was okay too but by the end of the show i kinda wanted to slap her. lol.
sorry that was mean.
Love your bit on James Franco. I agree. Hosting something like the Oscars would make anyone nervous.
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite dress was Amy Adams, but I've always loved blue.
I LOOOOVE OSCAR NIGHT!!! and was sooo happy colin firth won, as did "the king's speech." AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeletei love James Franco too and think he was great! if he was TOO over the top, it would have been too much with Ann Hathaway.
your dress was SO my favorite too!! :) but then again, i also loved marion cotillard's a few years back that looked like fish scales :)
Honestly, I'm just tired of hearing of James Franco. He seems to have his hand in EVERYTHING these days and I don't understand what the big deal is about him. I mean, he's no Tom Hanks. I'm just not overly impressed with him.
ReplyDeleteI did not know that about Franco. I did not watch the show but saw some blurbs about it this morning. I can only imagine how scary that would be to stand up in front of all those people in the audience and viewers. Cate always looks smashing. This is no exception.
ReplyDeleteI thought James Franco did a great job! He totally had me as soon as he gave his Marky Mark lovin' grandma a moment to shine. Anne Hathaway, however, seemed to be trying a smidge too hard for my liking.
ReplyDeleteI think James did fine--it's terrible when people are overly critical. As for my favorite dress, as I have posted on everyone's blogs, Mila Kunis's by far. It got the same reaction from me that you had when you saw Cate Blanchett's. I actually want to wear it. Right now.
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of the night for me was Colin Firth's speech. He is such a sweetheart.
I LOVE how positive you are!! xox
ReplyDeleteI sensed his nervousness through the screen and felt for him. That is a tall order and they actually said yes! How very brave of them!
ReplyDeleteAnne Hathaway seemed much more comfortable, but by the middle of it all, they were both able to make side comments that made me giggle a bit.
Like Hathaway said at the beginning, the point of them hosting is to entice a younger demographic to watch the show. I think they did exactly that.
I totally loved Cate Blancett's awesome dress and posted about it yesterday too - I think either you love it or hate it really:)
ReplyDeleteAnd you are right about James Franco - think he did a fine job. Lovely blog you have - see you around.
A xx

I did not watch but I love James Franco because he is so strange. It makes him more approachable in an odd way.
ReplyDeleteWellllllll you'll never hear me be hard on James Franco; he's way too hot to get any criticism from me. ha!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dress was Mila Kunis's . . . ooooh the lacy lavender loveliness!
I'm the opposite, though--I don't really care about the awards (cause I'm not really a movie person; I'd only seen one of the movies nominated), but I LOVE seeing all the gowns!
Oh, yes... beautiful dress. I like that bit of yellow and all the details. This might make you smile about James Franco: http://www.refinery29.com/james-Franco-twitter I wasn't able to watch the Oscars 1) because I live in Europe and 2) because I'd have to stay up super late to watch them. Looks like I missed out on a bit.
ReplyDeletecompletely and totally agree about cate's dress! seriously, i want this dress so badly.
ReplyDeletei agree with you on franco. this was huge...and i think did the best he could. i mean, he's no billy crystal, and people shouldn't expect him to be...
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people thought James Franco was high that night, but to me he just seemed really uncomfortable and nervous. Who knows! Anne Hathaway did a nice job and it was a pretty entertaining evening!
ReplyDelete....for a change did not see any weird dresses this year.
ReplyDeletei agree about the james franco thing! people were really harsh and I dont think he was so terrible, he just seemed kinda reserved and nervous. Also, i thought the red carpet this year was pretty boring but Cate's dress was at the top of my list.
