good deeds ~ valentine's day!

today's good deed is pretty simple and probably pretty obvious:  show someone some LOVE!

it's not rocket science, but it is life changing...
a hug,
a compliment,
a gift,
an act of service,
or
some undivided, quality time and attention,

...all are great ways to share the love!

i'm not sure how it happened, but our culture tends to focus on love as being most important when shared between romantic partners, but that's just not true! there are so many types of love in life - family, best friends, our passions & interests, and love for ourselves, to name a few.  so even though valentine's day has become just another commercialized holiday, let's use it as a reminder of ALL the various types of love you have in your life. celebrate them, thank the universe for them, and make your appreciation for those people known.  don't forget to share the love with yourself too!  we can really only properly love and accept love from others when we first know how to love and appreciate ourselves.  and no matter what you were taught growing up, please know that splurging on yourself, treating yourself to something special, or putting your needs first IS a good thing to do!  it's not selfish, it's healthy.  you should have your well filled up so high it's overflowing!  only then can you have the energy and proper mindset to share love and kindness with others.

as for me?  i'm thankful for so many amazing people in my life, including all of you!  your comments always warm my heart and make me smile.  thank you so much for all of your support and friendship.  you {yes YOU} are truly appreciated!

and on a completely different note, anthropologie just launched their new bridal line today!
you can check out bhldn {pronounced 'beholden'} here.
i hope this doesn't mean i have to do my wedding all over again...

ps - if you live in san jose and you're wanting something fun to do, head downtown for the big pillow fight!  this used to be an annual san francisco valentine's day extravaganza, but apparently it was cancelled this year, so san jose picked it up.  enjoy it you crazy kids!

  3. Forget about redoing a wedding -- I think we should have a fabulous ladies champagne party and each of us should wear a different bhldn dress. I'm stunned into silence. Happy Valentine's Day, Kim. I'm very much with you on spreading the love and letting everyone I love know that.

  4. Happy Valentines Day.
Love those dresses, I don't hope that means I have to do my wedding all over again, though it was one of the best days in my life, so I guess I wouldn't mind doing it again, except for the cost of it:)

  6. I couldn't agree more. I am using today as an opportunity to tell my friends/family how much I care for them. And a very happy Valentine's Day to you, too! I always love coming here; you have the most life-affirming and beautiful posts :)

Those dresses are classic, elegant, and absolutely gorgeous.

And I love the idea of an organized pillow fight--how fun! I wonder if there's something like that going on in New York??

  7. I am not a big fan of V-Day either, but I do like the idea of sharing love and affection.
I so agree with you on loving oneself (it took me years to realize one can't have a good relationship with others unless you've a good relationship with yourself).
Happy Friendship day my dear, your posts and comments never cease to make me smile. I hope you have a great day :)

  8. I agree with you - I've never been a big Valentine's Day girl but I do enjoy spending the day with my favorite people and showing those in my life how much they mean to me. SO excited to see BHLDN (even though I already have my dress) it's still fun to look.

  12. ive been thinking a lot about how I love others who are especially more difficult to love. it's easy to love those who love us, right? my goal is to find ways to appreciate the people who are often... less appreciated in my life :)

  13. feel the love! spread the love! make it happen!

there was a sweet segment on cougar town the other night about giving compliments and showing love, and how it just snowballs in the best possible way and makes others do the same. yay! it is a good concept to adopt, and it is true! enjoy your day!

    happy valentine's day!!

and re: bieber? okay i had essentially no idea who he was and have been lightheartedly bagging on the kid, but using bieber fever as my illness since i got sick.

as a joke the bf and i decide to see the movie on friday...and i can say i get it now. he's a nice kid who grew up with a teen mom in a small town in canada. his story is so inspiring. anything can happen to anyone if they put their mind to it (and have some degree of talent, too - of course:))

  17. In university, I used to buy all my closest girlfriends flowers because, like you, I totally think love of all types should be celebrated! Happy Valentine's Day!

  18. Great reminder. All types of love should be celebrated. Romantic love is put up on such a pedestal and while it is great-family and friend love sustain us just as much!
    P.S. Super dresses.

I really should not check out those wedding dresses. I don't need to contribute to my wedding/baby fever in any way, lol.
