There is no crying in bathing suit shopping!

...or is there?

First of all, apparently one should not begin the search for a bathing suit at the end of June because trust me, there's nothing left. Secondly, why oh why do companies insist on using only 3 sizes for bathing suits? Women {at least all those over 25} have a wide variety of body shapes and sizes. We don't all magically fit into one of 3 sizes, especially when the thing we're trying to fit into is skin-fitting and will be seen by everyone!

I tried to find a bathing suit this past week, but to no avail. My last attempt was the worst. After squeezing myself into too many too tight suits I felt like heading immediately to an aerobics class,... or a bar, I hadn't decided which. It was depressing to say the least. Even for me, a pretty healthy young woman. I just kept thinking, "this is way too much money to spend on something that makes me feel so badly about myself!"

But what is the alternative? It's summer and I take periodic trips down to LA where it's hot and there are beaches. ...I guess I'm still searching for that great solution, but for now I just needed to vent.

Ladies of the world, you are not alone in your fitting room sob fests.

RIP

Oh Michael Jackson. How influential you were on my childhood. I remember learning to moonwalk when I was 6, and putting on one grey glove pretending it was sparkly. Your songs from the 80's are some of the best ever. Next time I go to a Prince vs. Michael dance-off, I promise I will rock your songs the hardest.

The Palace of Fine Arts!

Last night I had a nice break from my classes, so Dannon and I took the opportunity to have a mid-week date. We went to the most romantic place in SF - The Palace of Fine Arts! It was recently re-opened after a very loooong renovation, so we were very excited to be able to walk around once again. So lovely!

Unlike in the past, we did not find any adorable skunks. I hope the renovation didn't scare them all away!

Bon Voyage Kristin!

This was Kristin's last weekend before moving to Michigan {sniff!}, so of course, we had to send her off in the proper San Franciscan style.

First, Dinner at Ziryab's, a wonderful little Mediterranean restaurant right by my house. The best part about this place is that the House Burger comes with your very own French Friends!!!

After dinner we headed up to Chabot Space and Science Center for some stargazing at the Observatory. Then it was off to Japantown for a little karaoke. We rented our own private room where we sang and danced the night away.

And when all of that was over, we celebrated with party poppers on the street!

We'll miss you Kristin!!!Good Luck in Detroit!

Things I Desperately Want to Own

Dannon captured this wonderful picture the other day coming home from work. I love that he shares super hot toyota land cruisers with the steering wheel on the right side and an Alaskan license plate that says "surf" with me! What a good boyfriend... and what an amazing truck!

Go Outside!

I have been trying to do much more of this lately. Unfortunately I was sick over the weekend and got trapped indoors. I am determined to enjoy the cold fog this week, however! For those of you who do not live in San Francisco, I really hope you are making the most of the season called Summer. {I know it exists somewhere in America right now.}

UP!

Last night Dannon, Kristin and I went to see the movie Up! It was one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I was crying I was laughing so hard!

Here's a few reasons we loved it:
- There were references to movies like Indiana Jones, The Rocketeer, and Star Wars.

- There were references to local Bay Area establishments like Fenton's Ice Cream!

- We know some of the amazingly talented people who made this movie {pixar is just on the other side of the Bay}!

- There's completely random humor that no children would ever understand {read: parents will probably like this more than their children}.

- The musical score is beautiful and powerfully ensues specific emotions.

- There's suspense, hilariousness, and touching sadness.

Definitely a must-see!

SF Outside Lands!

Oh, how I want to go!!! This is the second annual music festival just a few blocks from my house! Last year Dannon and I went for all three days as my birthday extravaganza {it's always during the weekend of my birthday, isn't that interesting...}.

We saw Radiohead {eek!}, Beck, Cold War Kids, Tom Petty, Cake, Ben Harper, Regina Spektor, M. Ward, Donavon Frankenreiter, Devendra Banhart, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Andrew Bird, Bon Iver, and Rogue Wave! Whew, it was an amazing weekend.

This year there's an equally amazing line up, including The Beastie Boys!!! Check it out:

Oh, if only I weren't a poor grad student and had a couple hundred dollars to spare!

mmm-mmm-Miette!

If Willy Wonka were a 6 year old princess, I'm pretty sure he would have a candy store exactly like Miette. It's pretty much the happiest place I've ever been. Back when I worked as a legal assistant I would get off the bus 10 blocks early just to wander in and see all the pretties. I still use this candy store as a pick-me-up during stressful grad school times.

They always have a wide variety of old school candy, foreign chocolates, and the most delicious cupcakes!

They even do parties! The pictures on the website show parties with little girls, but maybe they'll make an exception for my 28th?...

Also, if you go to the Hayes Valley location on Fridays you can meet Hank the Russian Wolf Hound! He's pretty much the coolest {and largest} dog I've ever met!
