i had a fantastic weekend, full of baking heaps of gingersnaps, indulging in the best squash soup ever {at four cafe in eagle rock for those of you who live nearby}, making beautiful christmas & hanukkah music with the mr., and shmoosing with my fellow therapists at the holiday party for my professional organization {there's really no warmer, safer, or friendlier place than a party full of therapists}.
saturday was free museum day for bank of america customers {the only benefit of such an evil empire}, so the mr. and i headed over to the LACMA {my first museum trip since moving to los angeles}.
i absolutely LOVE museums! there's just something about being surrounded by creativity, history, and such deep emotions. i always feel enriched and inspired after a trip to a museum. the LACMA has a great collection, so i was in art heaven!
my favorite piece was this massive, curved steel, labyrinth installation by richard serra ~ just beautiful!
and of course, we had to have some fun with the lanterns out front.
we had a great time, but it sure made me miss my de young and SFMOMA back home. i'm hoping i'll get to visit the MOCA soon {which just might give my favorite sf museums a run for their money}. and! we found out that the tim burton exhibit is coming to the LACMA this summer, which i'm completely over the moon about!
do you have a favorite museum, art genre, or exhibit?
I love museums! I went to the Georgia O'Keeffe Art Museum when I visited New Mexico, and loved it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a fun weekend!
How fun! I love those lanterns and totally want to take my picture in them. That's a great shot of you.
ReplyDeleteI love the MOMA, and at BYU we had a great college museum with fantastic artwork from around the world. Our local museum in Sacramento has a Thiebeau exhibit that I love. And I know I just spelled his name wrong. Sorry Wayne!
wow..quite a busy weekend there Kim!! Love those photos! especially the one where you were jumping..hehe..
ReplyDeletehmmm..the last art exhibit that I went to was 8 years ago I guess? hehehe...
very cool! I haven't been to a museum since ... oh wow... why can't I remember (probably a bad thing)! i went to the georgia o'leeffe museum in NW too, I adore her work (I don't care if everybody says her art looks like a 'cooz' lol i like it! bahaha)
ReplyDeleteThe museum I love isn't really a museum. It's an outdoor sculpture garden. I adore it, the sculptures are so cool and it's so fun to play around in.
ReplyDeletelove your pictures with the lights :) i need to take the mister there again just for those pictures.
ReplyDeletedefinitely love LACMA, have you been to either or both of the getty museums yet?
What great pics--sounds like you had an awesome time! I actually just visited the MOMA this past weekend (love modern art). And the Tim Burton exhibit that was there for awhile is amazing! You're going to love it :)
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite museum of all time is the Mutter museum in Philly. It's full of science oddities including a display case of things people have choked and died of. Morbid, I know, but really fascinating!
i just went to lacma the other weekend! i loved the richard serra sculptures, too! just incredible!!!
ReplyDeletemoca is rad. so is the norton simon. getty is ok. super museums and galleries in la, but then again i am biased!
Looks super fun. I havent been to a museum in years. My favorite so far is the MOMA
ReplyDeleteNice pictures!
ReplyDeleteI love the Victoria & Albert in London. And the British Museum. They're immense and I could spend all day wandering through their exhibits...
ReplyDeleteWe have a great museum in Victoria, too, but I have been a million times. I think I've seen pretty much every little thing in them.
Oh, and how much do I love your classic jumping photos? So much!
that looks fun. I have not been to a museum it a while. Sounds like a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw these pictures, I was all "I'VE BEEN THERE" the metal labyrinths are pretty cool eh?
ReplyDeletewhooooa that place looks AWESOME!!! i love the lanterns...wish i could go there and take a few pictures. how fun! especially love the one of you mid-air. you are just too cute!
ReplyDeleteoooh Tim Burton at the LACMA! sounds amazing! I really love that little area of LA, with the Disney concert hall and the cathedral close by... by the way, the cathedral (even though I'm not a practicing Catholic) is a gorgeous piece of art inside and out, I highly recommend a visit :)
ReplyDeleteThese are the coolest pictures ever! Love the pillars. And I adore museums! My favs are the Brooklyn Museum, MOMA and The Met... a good mix of classic and modern!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a neat location! I'd love to do a photo shoot there! :)
