easter memories

on saturday i was telling the mister all about how my big sister and mom would have elaborate easter hunts with hardboiled eggs, chocolate, & other fun stuff when i was a little girl.  one year my big sister made giant rabbit footprints out of bright colored paper and laid them all over the house, leading into the bushes out back.  she tried to convince me that the easter bunny had hidden things for me before my sister woke up and scared him away.  as a little girl i was determined not to be had, so i refused to believe that the easter bunny existed.  still, that was one of my favorite easter memories, and as an adult i've always appreciated all the creativity she put into that story.  it was such a cool idea! {did i ever tell you that jenny? it's true, you were such an awesome big sister!}.

the easter adventures ended sometime when i was around 9 or 10, when i was a little too old to justify copious amounts of candy for absolutely no reason.  i hadn't reminisced those memories in many years, so you can imagine how special and sweet it was when i began finding little reese's chocolate eggs hidden all over our house come easter sunday!  it was so adorable of the mister to do that for me, even after i acted totally annoyed at him for forgetting to pick up ice cream sandwiches from the store.
thanks dear, you're the best!

other fun things about easter this year included the daffodils the mister brought me {my favorite!},
a dance party to favorite music from the early 2000's {remember dido and the bravery?},
and a wine date with friends late into the evening hours.

a lovely easter indeed!

ps - the railroad revival concert was awesome! i'll tell you all about it tomorrow.

  2. My brother's mom used to make hunts for us and stamp out rabbit feet with baby powder. I totally failed and didn't even mention the bunny to my son this year :(

  3. That's such a sweet story! You sister sounds like a very thoughtful person. My mom to this day gives my brother and I Easter baskets... only now they're filled with things like jewelry and hair products, haha! She loves doing it every year.

  10. I got to hunt for eggs until I was a teenager I think. My mom asked me to keep doing it for my younger brother, but when he wanted to stop, I was heart broken. I love hunting for Easter candies. I actually got to do it on Sunday, though I need someone to hide the eggs really well for me. You're lucky Dannon did a little hunt for you. Just in case you weren't sure before that he was a keeper.

  11. I love your tradition of Easter egg hunts - we don't do that in Denmark at all, which is a great shame as it sounds like so much fun - Perhaps I will start the tradition next year for the girls:) Great story Kim, loved your big sister and her effort, and the fact that the Mr. got you some choccies -how lovely.

  18. That sounds like a lovely easter. Really any day with a hardboiled egg in it isn't half bad.
I love some daffodils, myself. Yes, I remember dido. She was my Sunday college music soundtrack(alongside jewel and enya).
P.S. Have I mentioned that your posts always make me want to talk in exclamation points!! I refrained until the end...but it was hard. Peace.

  19. Giant bunny footprints?!! What a great idea! I don't care if we're 9 or 39..that will always be cool..

So sweet of your husband to put lil choco Easter eggs here and there. Michael took forever to decide whether he wanted 'em then put 'em back. Thankfully, we had a bar tucked away to make us feel better.

Easter is lovely and I'm glad you enjoyed yours!

  20. Awwwwwww!!!! How sweeeeeeet! I love this :) So awesome of the Mr. And the daffodils are lovely, too.

And what a sweet memory. I have a similar one of my father and brother, but it involves Christmas and Santa. I was too old to believe in Santa, but we kept it going for my brother. My dad rang some bells on the front step and called my brother. As soon as he ran out, my dad threw the bells in the bushes and asked my brother if he heard Santa. It was the sweetest thing (even though I ruined Santa for him not shortly thereafter. Mean older sis, I was, LOL!)
