weekend wonderfulness!

the past few days have been just gorgeous here in sunny southern california!  after last week, which was a really rough week for my ocd, and then with the tragedy in japan, i decided i needed to make the most of life so i filled my time with wonderful things:

on saturday i had a really lovely, relaxing day of writing and reading.  then that night, we headed out to a super fun birthday party.  we had the most delicious spread of cheese with a blind wine taste testing.  i am horrible at identifying flavors in wine, so i took the ole michael scott approach.

on sunday the mister and i headed down to sunset junction to roam around the furniture and home stores.  there are so many cute shops down there, plus amazing coffee and gelato.  yum!  later that night, the mister decided to make healthy, but incredibly delicious, muffins {wheat, apples, oats, honey, cinnamon,... i think that's the gist of it}.

and i did the whole i'm-hanging-out-with-different-people-so-i-can-wear-the-same-outfit-two-days-in-a-row thing:

{shirt: hand-me-down from my step-mom, skirt: hand-me-down from a dear friend, earrings: given to me straight off the ears of my best friend at my pre-wedding party, shoes: i actually bought these! from target}

then last night we met up with friends at wurstkuche, an amazing sausage grill in the arts district, which the mister has been raving about for years.  now, i'm a vegetarian {no rattlesnake or alligator sausages for me}, but this place has some delicious veggie options as well.  i got the vegetarian smoked apple sage with belgian fries.  oh heavens, it was so good! i'm glad i exercised a little extra and skipped an entire meal so i could indulge guilt-free.  you should definitely check it out if you're in LA.

the rest of this week, i will be continuing my big search for a job, any job!, preferably one doing therapy, even more preferably one that PAYS.  i also have some plans to socialize with friends and make merry music this weekend.

i hope you are all happy and well {and not at all late to everything because of the time change}!

  2. Your posts make me wish I had lived in California! All I ever had available in restaurants as a vegetarian was fries or really sad looking salads when I lived in Indiana. I hear it's getting better now, but it's about a few years too late, ha!

    Love that skirt, too!

  3. You are so precious Kim! Your vegetarian dinner sounds delicious! Occasionally in our small town we have a problem finding vegetarian food at a restaurant (there's two places that come to mind immediately that don't even have salads that are vegetarian)!

Good luck with the job search and enjoy the warm weather for me!

  5. We need to be neighbors. That's my conclusion. I totally do the "I'm going to wear this again, I'm seeing different people" thing. And the outfit is so cute (I'd want to wear that every day). Hope things keep going brilliantly this week. We're on for Sunday, yes?

  7. That sounds like just the thing to do - to make sure you give yourself good experiences when you're having bad days. And I love when you share with us everything you do - you know LA so much better than me! :) I wish I lived closer, so I could just tag along and see all these cool sights that you do! :)

  8. It sounds like you had a lovely time. And yes, sometimes, I pull your outfit trick too! The problem comes when it is time to post the photos. I swear there was one season I was in love with this skirt and wore it everywhere--since the fiance and I have different groups of friends and saw them all, that skirt had quite the social life.

  10. I'm so glad you treated yourself to a wonderful weekend after a long and difficult week. Everything about it sounds perfect, and I love that outfit you wore (with those completely adorable earrings!)... I'd have worn it twice too.

Things are not good here today. I'm sick with aches all over and a nasty cough, and (even worse), both my boys are sick too. Sawyer has a temperature and the ickiest runny nose and goopy eyes, and Dylan? Well Dylan just recently puked all over me. Aah, the joys of motherhood! I guess what I'm grateful for is that I can take a day off and still get paid, so I can look after the kids and try to get better myself. We'll cuddle up under blankets on the couch and watch kids tv, maybe sip some soup...

Oh, and I'll admire the daffodils out the front window!

Have a happy Tuesday, Kim. xo

PS: Any ideas how I can do my 29 days of giving when I'm stuck at home on the couch all day? :(

  11. The Michael Scott approach? Did any of the wines have an Oakey after-birth? hehe :)

so i need a pat on the back-- i've been meeting back up with my gym work outs-- next time i wanna slack, i must remind myself how SO VERY HARD it is to get back into the groove. lol

  19. I think I said this the last time you mentioned the repeat-outfit scenario -- I totally do the same thing, more often than I'd like to admit! If it looks good one day, why not keep on rockin' it? (Well, aside from sweaty armpits, which occasionally foils my plan.)

  20. Love your outfit! And the earrings are soooo cute!
The time change plus a head cold has me super loopy right now!
I'm a veg, too...I'll definitely check out Wurstkuche with my non-veg boyfriend! We're so lucky we live in a city where there's a little something for everyone!

  23. Okay a few things: My friend and I always say that something has an "oak-y afterbirth" when describing any kind of food so it was good to see that Michael Scott clip again!

I LOVE THOSE EARRINGS!! Where on earth are they from?? Too cute! Love your whole outfit.

Also a veggie (and German; something that makes very little sense to my relatives) but I will def check that place out next time I find myself in your neck of the woods. Those fries sound amazing!
