okay, so the wedding is set for this september down in the l.a. area. it will be a simple outdoor, picnic wedding with lawn games, pretty picnic blankets, and dancing to gypsy jazz.
with all that in mind, i need to pick a suitable dress immediately {oh the pressure!}.
so last weekend we took a little trip to portland so i could try on dresses by amazing designers like elizabeth dye and sarah seven. i came home with two favorites.
the first one is a bridesmaid dress by thread. the one i tried on in the store was the only sample they had, so it definitely did not fit and it was completely the wrong color. if i got it i would have it only come down to the top of my knees. i'm not set on a white dress {i'm actually really opposed to it}, and i'm not crazy about the color options. but the ruffles are super fun, it's swishy, and would allow me to comfortably take part in lots of activities. the bad part is the color options, how much of my back it covers, and the fact that it shows off some bumps in photographs.
the second dress i tried on is a cute little number by sarah seven. again, the one i tried on was a sample, so it doesn't fit, is a little worn out from dozens of women trying it on, and it wouldn't have to be that color. sarah is a super cool gal my age who just started her line a few years ago. i could easily have her change little things here and there on it. the things i love are how it shows off my back and shoulders, is scrappy and fun, has a built-in bustier, will look good in any picture, will be easier to add accessories, and i would be supporting an etsy designer. also, the color options are so much prettier, including a cream that looks good on me if i decide to do the more traditional thing. the bad things are the bustier might get uncomfortable after all day in it and i'm not sure how self-conscious i'll be in a strapless {i never wear strapless, so maybe if i just wear more of that over the next few months it won't be a problem anymore}.
opinions? i think it's clear which way i'm leaning, but i would love to know your thoughts. i mean, showing off the dresses is one of the funnest things about planning a wedding! :)
I like the first one best :)
ReplyDeletei like the first one the best! :) a casual picnic style wedding sounds so perfect!
ReplyDeleteOooh, wedding dresses! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI like the first one best too (the style, not the colour) But it sounds to me like you're leaning towards number 2, which is also quite adorable. It's good that you've got other colour options and the designer can make little changes here and there... Could she add some straps so you're not too self conscious or uncomfortable? (my sister wore a tube top all summer in preparation for her wedding a few years back... it was pretty hilarious! tube tops all summer long, every day!) My dress was strapless too and I was so busy having a marvellous wedding day that I didn't even notice it wasn't the comfiest thing going.
As for dress number one, the right underwear can eliminate pretty much all bumps! And I like the swishiness of it.
How soon do you have to decide?
A picnic wedding will be so perfect! And so you. I'm really excited for you, Kim!
I love both dresses, but the first one is more me. But you shouldn't worry about the strapless dress, my wedding dress was strapless which I was a bit corcerned about too, but if the dress fits you don't notice it at all. As Erin said I was also too busy having a fab wedding that I didn't notice and I felt comfy all day, even in heels. I had the best shoes, I never had a pair of heels that I could wear a whole day and still feel like dancing:)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I really like the first one. And you look darling in both =-)
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the second dress! It's classic and pretty, without being too traditional. There's something about the poofy straps on the back of the first dress that I'm not crazy about, but it's still pretty. Have fun deciding!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way about strapless dresses, I never feel comfortable in them. But that dress really is lovely, i would choose it anyway.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one but maybe in a cream if your set on not having white! You still want to look like the bride!

everyone is saying the first one, but for me, the second is a winner hands down! Simply gorgeous. I've admired Sarah's dresses on etsy before, and you look lovely in it :)
ReplyDeleteThis is really tough, they're both beautiful dresses (and you're going to look perfect no matter what you choose). I'm leaning towards #2 right now, but like I said, they're both beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI came so, so close to getting a Sarahseven dress but couldn't commit without actually trying one on. You, however, did and look fabulous in it. It gets my vote.:0)
ReplyDeletei finally got a chance to do some catch up on your blog and was so excited to see wedding dresses! both dresses are so so pretty but i looove the second one. so so pretty and fun. ahh your wedding sounds like its going to be great! laid back and fun, just like a wedding should be!
